Sailboat Package available in Classic only
The Heritage Classic models have the option to be rigged as a sailboat. This package offers an additional element to your Heritage. The sailboat package provides you with everything that you will need to convert your Heritage from the traditional rowing dory to a sailboat. Converting an existing Heritage involves a little drilling for the Partner and the transom rudder mount, and also requires some epoxy for the mast step.
We are often asked "How good of a sailboat is the Heritage 15 and 18?" We have put these sail packages together at the encouragement of several clients. With the 15 and 18, nothing was compromised in the design as a rower; they are pure sliding seat boats with a sailing option as a novelty. With the Ammas, they are a joy to sail. Our opinion? To make the 15 and 18 great sailing vessels, we recommend the Outrigger Ammas be added (only fit the doubles). They sail nicely, but are like sailing canoes in that they are a bit tippy. We do not recommend them as a beginner's sailboat for children.
